All right we all heard about the recent bombshell: GTA4 will, for the 1st time in GTA history, miss it's launch window.
Now while yours truly wasn't too surprised, after the reality set in, what's left in the aftermath?
Well other devs/publishers must be celebrating as this means their games won't get overshadowed by the monster that is GTA for the Holiday rush. R* will rake in the dough regardless when it's released, so it seems like a win all situation right?
Not exactly. Enter Hardware devs M$ & sOny. Which of their machines will suffer more? Considering their respective big name lineup, looks like M$ will come out in better shape. They have Halo 3 afterall, nothing sOny has coming out this year has the recognition that Halo has. So with Big N already having the highest sell rate, an M$ have the big H3, it looks like sOny is doomed to cross the line in the 3rd position in the sale rates for the holiday season.
Consider: M$ recently dropped their tag on the 360 by $50 on the core an premium models an $30 on the Elite model, plus there's the "halo" 360 that launches in sep for $399. M$ has just placed themselves in the sweet spot between the Wii an the PS3. This is coming from a long time sOny supporter, as much as I think M$ won't have anything to answer sOny in '08 game-wise, truth is they may not have to, at that point sOny will be doing their hardest to play catch-up in the sales race.
M$ has a real opportunity here to knock sOny down for a 7 count this holiday.
That's not to say sOny doesn't have anything to offer in '07. Heavenly Sword will move some PS3's along with Warhawk, Lair, hOme, Haze, UT2007 as well as the other multi-platform games, the PS3 is far from being a bad investment this year by any means, but it's really in for an uphill battle this holiday season against the likes of Mario an Master Chief.
Maybe next year will be the PS3's time to shine, but '07 will be the year the PS3 took a backseat to the Wii an 360. 10 year plan ftw?
