Sony:  Down, But Not Out This Holiday

This holiday season, for maybe the first time since Sony has entered the gaming industry, they are up against the ropes as not just one, but two opponents come rushing in for the knockout.

So the question is:  Will Sony close their eyes and allow themselves to be KO'd?  The answer is no.

Sony has been hard at work with what they have to prepare themselves for this holiday.  A few weeks ago the story of a new 40 gig PS3 was announced and confirmed by Sony.  The new sku would be released in Europe, the Americas and Japan, with Japan receiving a special edition white 40 gig PS3 bundled with Dynasty Warriors 6.  The 40 gig will be priced at $399 in the US an comes bundled with the Spiderman 3 BluRay movie November 2.  Does it end there?  No.  Sony has also slashed $100 off the 80 gig MotorStorm bundled PS3.

Already the new PS3 pricing has seen an increase in sales for the PS3, but of course consoles survive on games, so what does Sony an the PS3 have to offer newcomers this season?  Currently the PS3 top titles out are: Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, GRAW2, MotorStorm and Warhawk.  Coming soon are highly anticipated exclusive & multi-platform titles such as: Ratchet & Clank, Haze, Uncharted Drake's Fortune, NFS Prostreet, Guitar Hero 3, Orange Box, Assassin's Creed and more.  Also being released is the innovative title Eye of Judgement that comes bundled with the PS Eye, while card games aren't for everybody, the title shows of the capabilities of the PS Eye very well.

The PSP has also been given a makeover this holiday with new models and bundles.  First is the extremely well packaged Daxter PSP bundle which comes with the new Ice Silver PSP,  the highly rated Daxter game, Family Guy UMD and a 1 gig memory stick all in a neat package that retails for $199 making it really a lot of bang for your buck.  The second PSP bundle includes the Ceramic White PSP with a Darth Vader bust on the battery case and the newly released Star Wars Battlefront title retailing also for $199, of the 2 bundles, this one is more geared towards die-hard Star Wars fans an current PSP users that want to upgrade, as it is not packed in with the extra goodies like the Daxter pack.

Why would current PSP users look to upgrade?  Well aside from the new colours, the new PSP also allows you to connect it to your display so you can play the games an watch the UMD's on a bigger screen, as well as being a bit lighter and having a slightly improved D-Pad.  On the gaming front things aren't high an dry either with top titles like Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow, Monster Hunter 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Jeanne D'Arc an more, users can purchase with confidence knowing they have a whole library of great games waiting to be played.

The PS2 also gets some love from Sony with the new White PS2 singstar bundle for $149.  With the mass library that the PS2 has, late-comers are in for a treat as they get to enjoy the quality gaming the console delivers at a very low entry price.

Despite Sony's media troubles and sluggish sales over the past year with the PS3, they have a lot to offer this holiday on all fronts with the PS3, PSP and PS2.  They maybe up against the ropes, but they are aware of the upcoming onslaught and are gearing up for a counter-strike of their own.
