Quick Picks
By Darrell Mashia
I know that when it comes right down to it, you don’t always want to read an entire article to find out if you should see a movie or not. So, with this in mind, I give you my quick picks, short, to the point reasons why you should or shouldn’t see the films that are opening this weekend. Think of it as a strategy guide for moviegoers.
Death Race: C-
- Why you should see it: You like watching other people play Twisted Metal.
- Why you should pass: Maybe if Death Race doesn’t make any money, Paul W.S. Anderson won’t be able to make Castlevania.
Hamlet 2: B-
- Why you should see it: It takes the satire of Saved! and turns up the dial.
- Why you should pass: The comedy is a bit uneven at times. May be a better rental.
The House Bunny: D+
- Why you should see it: You love films that try desperately to be other films.
- Why you should pass: The sentence, “Let’s make a Judd Apatow film for girls.” doesn’t appeal to you.
The Longshots: C-
- Why you should see it: Fred Durst directed a movie!
- Why you should pass: Fred Durst Directed a Movie?!
The Rocker: C
- Why you should see it: You liked School of Rock, but Hated Jack Black.
- Why you should pass: The story is formulaic, the acting is dull and the premise is warmed over.
