Weekly Movie Quick Picks 09/11/09

Quick Picks

By Darrell Mashia

I know that when it comes right down to it, you don’t always want to read an entire article to find out if you should see a movie or not. So, with this in mind, I give you my quick picks, short, to the point reasons why you should or shouldn’t see the films that are opening this weekend. Think of it as a strategy guide for moviegoers.

9: B-

  • Why you should see it: The film is visually stunning and action packed.
  • Why you should pass: This adaptation of an Oscar winning short, lacks the soul of the original.

Sorority Row: C-

  • Why you should see it: You like to see pretty girls hacked to death.
  • Why you should pass: There are no likeable characters and the film references it’s own derivativeness to the point of annoyance.

Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself: C-

  • Why you should see it: You’re a fan of Tyler Perry’s previous work.
  • Why you should pass: The film follows Perry’s familiar formula and offers nothing to interest new viewers.

Whiteout: F+

  • Why you should see it: For a film set in the Arctic, there is a surprising amount of near nudity.
  • Why you should pass: The cast phones it in. The writing is stilted and the story is predictable.
