Quick Picks
By Darrell Mashia
I know that when it comes right down to it, you don’t always want to read an entire article to find out if you should see a movie or not. So, with this in mind, I give you my quick picks, short, to the point reasons why you should or shouldn’t see the films that are opening this weekend. Think of it as a strategy guide for moviegoers.
Capitalism: A Love Story: C+
- Why you should see it: You love Michael Moore or only get your news from The Daily Show.
- Why you should pass: Extremely heavy handed and can only be called a documentary in the loosest sense of the term.
The Invention of Lying: B-
- Why you should see it: It’s the best date movie released this week.
- Why you should pass: While rather funny, it quickly falls into the romantic comedy conventions that may disappoint some viewers.
Toy Story & Toy Story 2: A
- Why you should see it: It’s Toy Story in 3D!
- Why you should pass: you don’t have a soul.
Whip It: B-
- Why you should see it: It’s a fun tale of female empowerment.
- Why you should pass: The story is crammed with so many plot points that by the end most don’t feel fulfilled.
Zombieland: A-
- Why you should see it: It’s a fun, gory zombie flick.
- Why you should pass: it’s not quite Shaun of the Dead funny.
