Gaming Addiction
University of Rochester Study sheds some light on the subject.
Posted January 16th 2007
Why is it so hard to give up gaming? The answer for each of us is as varied as we are. Even so, Psychologists at the University of Rochester just completed one of the many videogame studies it has been doing over the last couple of years and its results are interesting to say the least. Enjoyment of the game itself is many times based on the sense of connection to real world desires. The study suggests that we continue to play because of things we strive for in the real world. Accomplishment, companionship (non romantic) and a sense of freedom all help in providing us with game experiences that we are drawn to. So one could argue that it’s not the quality of the game itself that makes us play, but the way the game relates to the individual and his/her needs on a personal level. Make sure read through the article it’s well worth your time. Afterwards head to our forums and discuss it with us.
