Plot:
It’s the year 2010 and you are in Geo City, the safest and most advanced city in the word.  It’s Christmas and it has been raining for a while but nobody seems to care about the weather outside…until a river levee breaks and the water takes over the city faster than anyone could have ever imagined.

Game play:
You will be playing as 6 different characters and your main goal is to survive and get to safety.  Each person in this story has a different mission but you will soon find out that the choices you make for one character affects another one.  You will be mostly outdoors so you have to rely on survival points to dry your clothes and heating pads/ first aid kits/energy drinks to stay warm.  Being out in the freezing rain or snow will affect your body temperature.  Don’t let your BT drop too much or it will be game over for you.  One other thing you will be doing often is making choices for your character from a list of dialog options and your ending will depend on your decisions and/or attitude.

Controls:
The controls are very simple and one button is needed for most actions so no crazy button combinations here. You will be walking, running, crawling, jumping, holding on for dear life, at some point driving a car (just remember to drive on the opposite side of the road for this game) and also using an improvised boat to navigate the flooded streets.

Graphics and Sound:
Lets face it the graphics and textures are old school, not the best, but it’s not Pong either and amazingly enough the camera angles didn’t make me want to throw the game out the window.

The sound in the background is always of gusty winds, falling rain or rushing water which actually gives you a better feeling of being in the middle of a natural disaster.  At some point you will have that little tune we all know so well in all games that basically means; “You should be running right now!” The dialogs, however, are pretty basic and the voices get drowned by the rain/water here and there but there isn’t much talking going on so this glitch does not become extremely annoying.

Replay value:
There are collectibles that you probably didn’t pick up on the first run through.  Also you can go back after unlocking free play and select any character to make different choices to see the alternative endings.

The lowdown:
I really enjoyed playing Raw Danger.  I was able to look past the flaws and focus on the story.  In my opinion there are plenty of great survival and action- adventure games out there that have stories far from reality (zombie attack anyone?) but Raw Danger puts you in the middle of an exaggerated real life scenario which is wet, cold, and dangerous.

Buy or Rent?
You could probably get a new copy online for about the same rental price (if you have a subscription somewhere) so it’s really up to you.
